Holy freholies!
Ok so get this, there's this awesome sunburst 64 Jazz Relic at BM with a sticker price of $5,700 that I absolutely love, the sound, the feel, the look. So I wonder to myself how many actual vintage basses are around how much could an actual vintage bass be? Looked around and found this one which is the specific bass they modelled the relic on. So I wonder how much it costs, seeing as it's not listed. I sent them an email asking, and the reply came back today. No banter, no talking, just a single number... $8900. And that's US dollars people, $11,240 Australian.
So I'm thinking yeah that would be great, to have a vintage bass that sounds fantastic and is only going to increase in value. But then I realise that about 2% of people that listen to music know what a jazz bass is, and that 0.2% could pick a jazz bass sound, and that 0.02% could pick a nice jazz bass sound, and that 0.002% could tell the difference between the relic and the vintage side by side, and that 0.0002% could pick the difference by listening to a song.
It stands to reason that I'm not prepared to double the price of the bass I want for those 0.0002% of people. Sure, if I had the cash I would get it in a second, but really you're paying for nostalgia.
That is all.
